Living in Australia

Explore Australia's culture, climate, lifestyle, and essential information for international students.

Culture

Australia is multicultural, multiracial, and vibrant. Its cultural scene reflects Indigenous heritage, global influence, and a lifestyle that is open, energetic, and outward looking.

Population

Australia's population is approximately 27 million. Most residents live along the eastern coastline from Adelaide to Cairns, with Sydney and Melbourne being the largest cities.

Climate

Northern Australia stays warm year-round, while southern areas have cooler winters. Snowfall occurs in elevated areas of NSW, Victoria, and Tasmania during winter.

Geography

Australia is a vast island continent with over 36,000 km of coastline and a landmass of 7.68 million sq km. It has 20 UNESCO World Heritage sites, iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House, and natural wonders.

History

Indigenous Australians arrived 50,000–60,000 years ago. European settlement began in 1788 with the First Fleet. Australia evolved from a penal colony into a vibrant, modern nation.
